About us
We’re thrilled your spiritual search has led you here! We are a branch of the Christian Science denomination, a worldwide organization founded by Mary Baker Eddy in the late 1800s. We’ve been part of the Palo Alto community for over 100 years.
Our church is run by volunteers — there is no ordained clergy. We rotate leadership roles among the members.
Our church community includes people with many backgrounds – some with rich faith traditions and some with none. We all share an interest in growing our spiritual practices and having them be practical in our lives. We are individually committed to bettering our community and the world we live in.
We would love to have you join us on Wednesdays and Sundays and participate in any of our special events or regular activities.
What is Christian Science?
“The law of God, the law of good.” That’s how Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, defined Christian Science. This understanding of God as infinite Love and unchanging goodness leads to prayer that can heal, redeem, and restore anyone.
Learning from Jesus Christ’s example. Jesus demonstrated God’s law in his ministry. He proved that healing and regeneration come as we recognize our true nature as spiritual. He said “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” That includes freedom from illness and discord.
Focus on spiritual healing. An understanding of the Bible and especially Jesus’ teachings are the heart and soul of Christian Science. The practice of Christian healing has resulted in significant cures of physical and mental problems for over a century, with many of these accounts available online.
The power of prayer. In Christian Science, God is seen as always upholding health and well-being. The power of prayer lies not in faith alone but in a deeper understanding of God’s divine laws that embrace humanity.
The Christian Science pastor
Consistent guidance, year after year. The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy serve as the universal Pastor for Christian Science churches around the world. Both books are available in the Christian Science Reading Room in multiple formats and languages.
The Holy Bible
The Bible consists of the Old Testament and the New Testament, and is the foundation for the theology and practice of Christian Science. The King James version is used for Sunday services, but other translations are often used for Wednesday meetings. Read this book.
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
Mary Baker Eddy wrote this book to give to the world the practical system of Christian healing she discovered in the Bible. Her book explains how you, too, can rely on the laws of God in healing yourself and others. Read this book.
