The talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible\, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings\, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and sponsored by the Palo Alto Christian Science church.  \n “Circumstances often present what appear to be significant obstacles to living freely\, something that everyone wants to do\,” Ms. Virgil says. “In this talk\, we will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective; and see how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical\, emotional and circumstantial restrictions that seem clearly beyond their control.” \n Sharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Ms. Virgil will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nMs. Virgil will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, and how she came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nFor over 150 years\, people around the world have worked to follow Christ Jesus in this practice of Christianity and continue to do so today\, with healings of physical ills and personal difficulties.

DESCRIPTION:The power of God’s love is the greatest agent for bringing needed change and healing into the world. \nMark McCurties\, a practitioner of Christian Science healing\, will present a talk titled\, “Meaningful change for ourselves and the world” at the Menlo Park Christian Science Church\, 201 Ravenswood Avenue\, Menlo Park\, California \nMark McCurties \nWe live in a world where millions of people are striving to make change for the better. So\, in a world seeking positive change\, how do we make sure that such change actually happens? Speaker Mark McCurties says\, “We all have a natural desire to improve ourselves and the world around us.  In my own life I’ve found that letting God\, divine Love\, guide and direct my efforts brings permanent and meaningful results.” \n“The desire to change ourselves\, to improve our character\, our relationships\, our life prospects can also go beyond just the boundary of our own lives and the four walls of our home. Many men and women around the world have a sincere yearning to improve the collective experience of humanity\,” says McCurties. “In this lecture\, I will explain how God’s loving and saving power is the greatest agent for change\, and that through a right understanding of God\, His power can be seen and felt right here and now\, bringing health and peace to the world.” \nThe ideas in this lecture are based on the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Bible\, and as discussed in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, by Mary Baker Eddy. \nMcCurties has had a life-long love of the Bible and its inspiring message of individual triumph over adversity. After graduating from college\, he spent a number of years in the field of education where he worked as a camp director\, experiential educator\, resident counselor\, and athletics coach. While working with young people\, he had many opportunities to witness the healing power of God\, and these inspiring experiences eventually led him into the full-time public practice of Christian Science. \nMark McCurties is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.
